Innovations for the electrified world at The smarter E Europe event

Demonstrations at The smarter E Europe event to show new power relays, rugged switches, and advanced sensors in action

Omron Electronic Components Europe is to exhibit at The smarter E Europe, the alliance of exhibitions for the energy industry, bringing innovations for better electric vehicle charging, e-mobility, energy storage, and solar power generation. Omron will be present in the Power2Drive Europe section at B6.779.

Enabling the industry’s advancement from contactors to relays in power switching and control, for greater energy efficiency, smaller size, and faster assembly, Omron will highlight solutions including new G9KC 4 pole relay.

The G9KC brings advantages to high-power applications traditionally fulfilled using contactor-type switches, saving energy in all operating modes through advantages including extremely low contact resistance and reduced coil holding voltage requirement.

“As a flagship new product, the G9KC features prominently in demonstrations on our booth. These and many others will show how products from across our portfolio can enhance efficiency, usability, and safety across applications like e-mobility and home and industrial automation,” said Steve Drumm, Strategic Marketing Manager – Solutions in Energy, Omron Electronic Components Europe.

Significantly smaller and lighter than contactors, these PCB-mounted relays can increase power density in all types of EV chargers including AC and DC wallboxes, DC fast chargers, and autonomous chargers. The through-hole PCB-mounted package also saves extensive manual wiring during equipment manufacture and ensures a rugged and robust assembly.

The G9KC is also suited to energy storage, power conditioning, and industrial automation. Illustrating its strengths in diverse applications, Omron will also demonstrate an integrated control system built with the G9KC for energy efficiency, compact size, ruggedness, and reliability.

There will be more to see across Omron’s extensive range of switches, relays, connectors, and sensors featured for the rigours of daily life in the electrified world. Tough and reliable Omron components include connection-detect and anti-tamper switches, as well as relays for fault protection, safety shutdown, and disconnect control in AC and DC wallbox chargers.

There are also relays for the AC and DC circuits in high-power fast chargers, including the G9KA-E with 300A carry current, and the 55A G6QG and 150A G7EB-E2 featured for AC inrush prevention, as well as relays for switch-matrix applications. Also showcasing rugged components for on-vehicle applications, will be the new G8PC power relay for AC charging onboard and new G9EK DC gasless relays, as well as signal relays and door-open/close switches.

In addition, Omron will demonstrate time-of-flight (ToF) proximity sensors for autonomous chargers, featuring a plug-recognition algorithm for automated physical connection. As well as an all-in-one weather sensor which can assist renewable-energy generation: in addition to atmospheric monitoring including temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, this sensor also provides wind speed and direction and light detection.

The smarter E Europe will be held from 7-9 May 2025, at Messe München, Germany. For more information about the event, please visit: www.thesmartere.de
