Fire Rated Clips
Inventor and electrician, Davy Gray waited a long time for someone to bring out a cable clip which could be fired from a cable clip gun, but it wasn’t until he met his wife that together they embarked on a journey to create that product. The ViperClip range currently includes three sizes of clips in standard and fire rated for 1/1.5mm², 2.5mm² and 4/6mm² twin and earth cables with more shapes and sizes in the pipeline. The ViperClip Fire clip has been tested by BASEC to BS EN 50200:2015 meaning it covers for you for 18th Edition Regulations. This clip is still going strong after 2 hours at over 830°C.
Trade Quality Tool
As well as creating this unique clip, Davy has also been instrumental in the designs of the clip gun. “What we’ve created is a trade quality product” he said. “It was important to me that we could compete with the big name brands out there, so we bench tested our product against them. I can confidently say ViperClip excelled. You won’t be disappointed! There are plenty more ViperClip products in the pipeline. This range is just the start!”
Neat Fit Cable Clip
You may remember ViperClip from BBC Dragons’ Den a few years ago securing a lot of interest from the Dragons. Since then the product has evolved, taking on board feedback from trials and changes to the regulations. The clips all have metal nails, meaning they’ll fire into engineered timber as well as natural timber and the gun now has much more punch to make that happen. You can tell an electrician has created this product as it’s those small details that matter – it holds the cable well, but with a hard stop point it doesn’t crush the cable meaning you won’t get called back to the job in 6 months to find out why the install has failed. You’ll have no worries with firing this clip as the gun will guide it over the cable ensuring it’s centred nicely. And what a neat install it is, by using the gun as a spacer, each clip will fire 250mm from the last one.
All Clips Made in the UK
So if all of that doesn’t tempt you, all ViperClip standard and fire clips are made in the UK. It’s something Davy was keen to do to support UK industry and to ensure availability of the clips. “And when we say, they’re made in the UK we mean we have sourced and assembled the product parts from UK companies.
We’re delighted to have worked with Ad-Vance Engineering from my home town of Lisburn, Northern Ireland to make the moulds for our clips, Rugby Plastics in Leicester, Frank Shaw in Gloucester and Clamason Industries in Kingswinford. We’ve also been working with QM Systems in Kidderminster to design and build a machine to assemble our clips. Our designers, BIGsmall Design in Belfast have been with us from the start with our clip designs and RDD+ in York have been shoulder to shoulder with us bringing our clip gun to life. So when I say, our clips are made in the UK – you can see they truly are.”

Coming to a store near you is the ViperClip Electrician’s Cable Clip Gun pack which includes the 20v gun, two 2aH 20 volt lithium ion batteries, a charger plus a tool lanyard and toolbag. A battery charge is pretty good on this tool lasting over 1000 fires and with two in the pack, you’re well covered for your time on site.
